I received your letter dated 21st and 22nd. I have gone through it. I am touched to find that you have been passing through tortures of the mind never experienced by you before. The weight of agony it seems has been too much to bear. The tender "outer " layer of your heart is touched and it is too sensitive. It must go. It was there and you could not help being susceptible and hurt. Your letter is most modest expression of your suffering and I am happy to find that you have taken things very bravely

and have been triumphant in realizing spiritual reasons at the back of it all. The tender layer has to go away giving favourable opportunity of the spiritual in you, to bring out elements of "sacrifice" in the forefront. On the Spiritual Path and for the LOVE of a Spiritual Master all else has to disappear. The process is to make all else subordinate to the Ideal. Sacrifice, one does, of several things but the sacrifice of a thing most dear to one's heart is difficult. It is very difficult; but not so when one has the backing of a Master. To lean on Him and leave everything to Him is the way of the truth. How else is the Truth to be attained? If the sacrifice of the 'love' born of externals be not undertaken and gone through with a noble and big heart, worthy of a true seeker of Knowledge, Truth and Bliss. Reflection is from the Real but reflection is not real. A sacrifice of the unreal for the Real is worth any sacrifice in the world. You have ME. I am in you and with you every moment of your life. The only thing is to find out how it is so. My every movement is for the individual's ultimate good and happiness and in so doing the suffering caused is just for that time. You must be ready to sacrifice everything in My LOVE. In the end it always pays to give up if necessary human beloved for the Divine One.

My Nazar and blessings are with you. You have an inborn spiritual yearning and to realize My Infinite State you must be prepared to sacrifice everything.

Your loving letter of 5th was received by me yesterday on my return from Bombay. True, it is I, spread over everywhere. Thoughts and conceptions can hardly reach the state I am in, every moment of time. Those endowed with circumstances leading to 'satsang' are fortunate. Love is the only force, Sadguru liberates for a few who are ready to receive the light. Cloudy forces of 'nature' impede reception and blur the true perception and make it look after her own shape. For a time this goes on, during which period there is pain and suffering. Your aspiration for true 'bhakti' has a place in My heart and as such could not go unresponded. Also you resolve to behave such as would always have my willing sanction, is backed by My love and blessings for you.

Your loving letter to Shri Baba is received by Him. It was redirected to Bombay where we all went for a few days. You will always address letters to Him to Meherabad as you have been doing. Shri Baba on going through your letter carefully was very happy. He also felt very much for you and the mental disturbance which from time to time confronts you. Baba says do not give any importance to all the disturbing thoughts you get.They are bound to come as a reaction – every time losing its intensity – till finally they will disappear. Have no annoyance for them, do not try to chase them; admit them as a natural sequence to past events. The unwelcome guests seeing that this past hospitality has no chance of a revival will make a gallant retreat. Please do not think much of the failures. Purification is one of the means; very difficult and reactionary. Manifestation of the divine is the most potent way. Constant thinking of Sadguru by repetition of His name, mental attachment to Him, preparing as it were a subconscious ground for a desire to know Him and admit Him, is the way to make oneself open for His 'divine' influence and the final 'grace'. The very fact, says Shri Baba that you were able to look upon your mind suffering and yourself longing to think of Baba always and love Him more and more is proof adequate of the spiritual in you trying to express itself by establishing the reality (yourself) aloof and something different from the mind. Until the waves of deviation exhaust themselves by their very recurrence the mind cannot but suffer. Pray do not try to coerce the mind and want impatiently that the purification be done in a day. Let it have its course, being careful only to see that you do not give sanction to the thoughts that cause disturbance. Shri Baba has been writing to you often that He has His 'nazar' and blessings on you which fact will more convincingly be proved in days to come. He says He's within you, right in your heart, the slightest revelation of which by actual experience would ignite the 'longing' into a fire of Love that will consume all the petty desires and the attendant sufferings never to rise again. The time must be right. The normal consciousness alongside the spiritual attainment has to be retained to have the experience of 'ananda' in terms of Parabakti says Meher Baba.
