THE RIGHT TIME

Mani S. Irani

The 'right time' never comes — it is always floating by and you have to put out your hand and grab it in the air; or you isolate a moment from the remorseless ocean of time and make it the 'right' one. Be that as it may, this at least is a tangible moment to express the many elusive moments when I've wanted to send a Hello by post but could not, when I've wanted to tell you how your letter touched in me a chord of great understanding and sympathy — not 'pity', for you will never need that.

Even now as I re-read that letter, I again receive from it the clean fresh fragrance of self-facing, which leads soonest to self-effacing. I want you to know that your letter was read to BABA — the One true Friend. May His compassion hold your hands to His daaman, ever. I recall Baba saying to someone: "It is not really your love for me that matters, it is My love for you that counts."

I like your line, "When it is right in His Name, I will walk," for isn't that true of everyone? Though their legs carry them fast they are truly lame whose feet are not set on the main road to God.
