IT EXEMPLEFIES MY FATHER'S CHARACTER

Najoo Kotwal

I remember vividly an incident which took place when I was eight, for it exemplifies my father's character. His aunt had been telling me stories about the way my grandfather's second wife had treated Father when he was a boy, and I later said to him, "Your stepmother is like Cinderella's stepmother."

At this Father became very cross with me. "Don't ever repeat this," he told me. "I love her. It is due to her that I began seeking God. She was my first guru."

Many people would have been bitter about such harsh treatment, but not Father. His stepmother's unkindness and neglect, along with his father's telling him that true love comes only from God, had led my father to seek God's love. And what a destiny for him, for in his search he found Meher Baba, the God-Man, who showered him with love, both human and divine, until the end of his worldly life.
