THOUGHTS THAT WOULD DISPLEASE HIM

Najoo Kotwal

In October the Blue Bus left Panchgani and headed for Dharwar, traveling via Satara, Belgaum and Kolhapur. Once when they were stopped somewhere between Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar, Mummy was sitting by a window, holding Adi on her lap. Both of them at that time were quite weak. It had been less than two years since we had left Bombay behind us and come to live in Baba's ashram, and Mummy still had occasional moments of doubt.

As she sat waiting for the bus to move again, a frightening thought came to her. She wondered what would happen to Adi, Hilloo and me if she were to die. Beloved Baba, who was standing outside the bus near her window, read her thoughts, and in silence He gestured to her, "You will not die. I am with your children always, so don't worry. You will grow to be an old woman."

Mummy felt very embarrassed and ashamed that she had doubted His compassion, especially when He had promised Father on the first day that He would see to our littlest needs until the very end. She could not know it then, but the Lord's prophecy would come true, as she lived to be eighty-nine years of age. Still, she realized fully from this incident that Baba is all-knowing, and from then on she did not dare think thoughts in front of Him that would displease Him.
