HEART TALK - More Original Letters: Sixteenth Letter

This is a 1935 letter to Baba from Chanji, who was in Bombay arranging
the publication of a booklet by Dr. Deshmukh, titled "My Master and His
Teaching."

Some adjustments have been made for clarity. The original can be seen by

Bombay, Sept, 18

Dear Baba

There is nothing to acknowledge for the last two days.

I gave the proof yesterday for re-composing the additional matter and
they have promised it to-morrow. I will return this duly corrected on
Monday, and they have promised that they will try to finish everything
by Thursday. I hope they will prove true to their words to enable me to
start promptly and in time for the date give by you.

Let's hope so [Baba's comment]

In my previous letters I have asked several things with regard to this
printing and since there is no reply uptil now, I repeat-

1. Do you want "wrappers" printed out for dispatch of these, upcountry
and which will be required for upcountry inquirers. If so, how many you
want me to prepare of these. I want to know this from you for I do not
know what your plans are for distribution of these. How many of these
are intended for the West and how many for Free distribution by hand, in
Bombay, Nasik, Nagar, Poona, Karachi and other places, for all of which
no wrappers will be required, but for the others to be sent to others by
post, these wrappers will be necessary. That is why I ask.

1 was for West
1 was for hand distribution
3 was for wrappers [Baba's comment]

2. I wanted to give the name of the "Circle" Publication, Meherabad,
Ahmednagar, as the publishers, but they insisted on a name, so I had to
give mine, as instructed, so I have put it as under

Published by -
F. H. Dadachanji
For The “Circle” Publications
Meherabad, AHMEDNAGAR (G.I.P.R.)

Bravo [Baba's comment]

3. With regard to its despatch upcountry by post, I thought of putting
something like the following, to save us so much of postage of all these
upcountry dispatches –

Copies of this could be had FREE on application to the Publisher , or
to the Manager, "Circle" Publications, Meherabad, Ahmednagar,
enclosing one anna stamps to cover postage.

O.K. [Baba's comment]

If you approve of this, alright. Otherwise, I won't print it. If,
however, you wish a note of this sort to be printed but in better
language, Doctor [Ghani] might suggest something better to this effect.

Re: advertisements of our other publications, for those who may be in
need after reading this, or others who might like to read these if they
know, I have already suggested printing the same on the back of the
outside folder of the title page the names of our other books, or better
still, the exact copy of the handbill we printed in Madras, copy of
which is enclosed herein. This might require additional composing
charges etc. upto Rs. 10, as I have already intimated. Please let me
know, if you approve of this.

Yes, Yes, and Yes as already written to you through Kotwal. [Baba's comment]

I must have your replies to all these on Sunday positively, as I have to
give the final order for printing on Monday by noon, and your mail is
delivered here in the afternoon sometimes as late as 3 p.m.

So if a reply is immediately posted to-morrow, I would have it on
Sunday, in time to arrange things accordingly I will see that the
additional printing would NOT detain the work, because it is on the
outside, i.e. the otherside of the printing, which will be done after
all the inside printing is done first. Meanwhile, this small matter may
be composed in a few hours, so that the question of detention will not
much interfere.

I should have liked to have added the name of the new book of your life,
now written by Purdom also as our "forthcoming publications" future if
you wish it announced at this stage.

Yes [Baba's comment]
MSI [Baba's handwriting]

I am also awaiting your replies to many other things asked.
Unfortunately I haven’t had copies of these letters with me, as some of
these were written in haste in tramcars and other places, and shall
therefore require these letters returned with your remarks in reply in
the margin or on the other side or on a separate sheet.

Who is to write the "foreword" to this new life of yours ["The Perfect
Master"], written by Purdom! Is it necessary or you wish it omitted in
this. Also please return [Sampath] Ayangar's letter sent to you for your
perusal.

Ayangar's letter enclosed in to-day's book post. [Baba's comment]

Nargis [Dadachanji], who was to be brought up yesterday, is not allowed
by the lady doctor to come up, not that she is unwell, but she wants her
to remain with her downstairs lest she might risk her delicate health
just recouping by doing something rash, with the children upstairs, in
her excitement, or something of the sort. It is indeed too good of the
doctor to do so, she doesn't demand any fees for the same, for she
treats Nargis as her own child, but even that incurs an obligation
However, looking to the doctors insistent demand, we have kept her there
for a few days still, although she is alright, by your grace.

I am so happy [Baba's comment]

With loving pranams,
Chanji
