HEART TALK - More Original Letters: Third Letter
This is another handwritten letter from one of Baba's stalwart,
Ramchandra K. Gadekar. Ramchandra was the son of the
Ahmednagar cobbler who made the special pair of chappals that
Baba wore for many years with the Kamli coat.
Ramchandra served as a teacher at Meherabad in the late 1920s,
and Baba attended his wedding.
In 1937, he won a government scholarship to study education at
the University of Edinburgh, in Scotland. Coincidentally, he
traveled to Europe on the same ship as Baba, who was on his
way to France.
Ramchandra later settled in Poona and worked tirelessly to
disseminate Baba's name and messages wherever he traveled.
Many, many people came into Baba's orbit of love through
Ramchandra Gadekar and his family.
His letter has been initialled by Baba at the top.
Some adjustments have been made for clarity. The original can
be seen by clicking the link:

My dear Baba,
I am quite well here by Your grace. With Your permission I beg
to state that on Wednesday afternoon I had been for tea at sister
Margaret's where brother Donkin also was present. There I had
the good fortune to see your photographs of different sizes taken
in the West as well as in the West.
If fortunately for me You happen to come to London sometime
in this month please let me know so on my present London
Address and I shall be very glad to have Your Darshan. I have
to go to Edinburgh before the end of this month. I have not yet
decided the exact date of my going from here. I shall feel
obliged if I receive introductory notes from You at Your early
convenience.
My B.C. [best compliments] to Princess Norina, sister
Elizabeth, brother and sister Malcolm and brothers Chanji,
Kaka, Godse and the rest of the Mandali there.
Your child,
Ramchandra K. Gadekar

P.S.
Dear Baba, I went through the prospectus of University
Correspondence College, Cambridge and found that side by side
with my Diploma Course in Education of Edinburgh I can
prepare myself for Cambridge B.A. Exam by receiving lessons
from Cambridge through Correspondence. I shall have to appear
for the B.A. Exam in December 1938. The total fee is between
200 to 300 Rs. Plus I shall have to stay in England six months
more than the leave granted to me. I shall have to get my leave
extended. That leave would probably be without pay. If things
(including finance) turn out favourable I might consider the
proposal. At present I put it before You with a need to know
whether I would be able to work for both the exams having the
interval of six moths between them and whether the B.A.
Degree of Cambridge would be of use to me in future. They say
both the exams are easy. But you know better whether they are
to me. I received my pay of August here.
Your child,
Ramchandra K. Gadekar
Dear Baba, please forgive me for my faults if any and send
Your blessings to me and mine. Wishing ever to remain in Your
good graces.
