HEART TALK - More Original Letters: First Letter

The first letter in this new series is a draft reply to a Baba lover in
Chanji's handwriting. As Baba was still writing in 1926, His
corrections are in His handwriting. The letter is on both sides of a
sheet of paper. Some minor changes have been made for clarity.

A Mr. Pathak is mentioned in the letter. This is Goma Ganesh
Pathak, one of the teachers at the Meherabad school, at the time,
and the author of the first booklet about Baba in Marathi. In the
letter, Baba mentions the possibility of an English translation of
Pathak's work (which as far as is known was never done).

Meherabad April 1926

Dear Mr. Shirali,

We have to acknowledge your kind letter of the 22nd instt. (thro'
Mr. Phatak) and note contents. It is indeed to your own advantage
to understand and appreciate such things and to believe in the
existence and inestimable worth of such Sadgurus who are in this
world only for its advancement. We sincerely wish more people
would come into contact with such saints, and it is a sacred duty
of those who have the good fortune to know and be acquainted
with such spiritual Masters to bring as many other fellow human
beings as possible in their contact and under their guidance and
blessings, and we are very glad to see you sincerely exerting your
best for the same. May the Grace of God and Guru be on you!

As regards your offer of Rs. 5/- to be sent by M.O. while we
thank you for your benevolence we may inform you that Shree
Meherbaba accepts no help pecuniarily from anybody.

[Section crossed out by Baba] Not a pie [a fraction of a rupee]
even - although He spends thousands every month over the poor
and the needy. And why should He who is himself the Master,
Creator and the Producer of whatever He desires? He is in this
world to give - not to receive. He desires nothing but obedience to
his instruction agnya [order] if one believes in Him, and falls at
His feet for salvation. [End of scored section]

Kindly therefore do not send any money (neither now nor ever in
future--Your sincerity and reverence are enough--more than
mines

We accept and welcome your suggestions with thanks. The same
will be duly considered.

[Below is an additional paragraph added by Baba in His
handwriting]

As for your suggestion to have the book published in the English
language it's a very noble idea and welcome it and request you to
do translate it yourself (as your letter shows that you have good
control over this language) and send it to us and we will have it
printed and published and distributed freely by our expense and
have your name in it as the translator.
