[Tavern-Talk]

HEART TALK - Donkin's Diaries: Twenty-third Installment

Nov 18th 1941

 On Saturday Adi got a wire that Baba would call here in Bangalore to 
see us all on his way back from seeing Chatty Baba in Negapatam. Dr 
Ghani came down from Poona, and yesterday evening at 8:00 pm Baba 
arrived in Bangalore with Aga Baidul, Gustadji and Kaka.

He went straight to Jessawala's house, and there we all had food with 
Him, Baba sitting on one side, all of us on the floor round him.

After supper Baba had chit-chat with all of us and with each of us 
separately too.

He gave us a talk on darkness and light, and asked us where darkness 
went to when light appeared. Light was knowledge which made all things 
appear clear in the consciousness. Darkness was ignorance.

Spiritually darkness is the 4th plane, and all Avatars when they speak 
of darkness mean this 4th plane.

Going to God is like the following; the first three steps are the first 
3 planes which lead us up to the House of God. The 4th plane is the 
threshold of the House of God, and it is in complete darkness; here we 
are very easily misled, and if we fall, we tumble back down the 3 
steps of the 3 first planes and have to start up again.
If we cross the threshold - especially safe if with a Master, then we 
suddenly reach light; then 5th plane when we feel God - then go 
further into the House of God and see God (6th plane) - then we go up 
to God and become one with Him, 7th plane.

Baba also talked of a worldly man being on the earth, a more spiritual 
in the air, a more spiritual in the sky, a more spiritual on the sun, 
and so one with it; i.e. Sun realized, or God realized.

We are all God, I am God as Don, Adi is God as Adi; if a man is a pir 
or Vali he is God as Vali, there is no change in God, only in 
consciousness.

When a man is realized, his consciousness is that he is God, and when 
he returns - if he has to for duty (and this is the highest spiritual 
state) his bliss remains the same always, and so does his 
consciousness of God - but his sufferings increase as he descends. 

He also talked of the bubbles and the ocean - and how we become 
conscious first only of our being bubbles, separate from other 
bubbles, but in the end are conscious of ourselves as the ocean.

He spoke of the war, how Japan, Turkey, Egypt, America and India must 
all be involved, how earthquakes, floods, famines and disease will 
come. 

Baba said he will never tell us when he is to speak - does an 
earthquake announce its coming he said - nor would he announce his 
date of speaking. But when he spoke all would feel it - some a lot, 
some a little. People would know Christ had come, by feeling something 
really had happened.

Baba said he had already begun to speak to himself alone a very little, 
and this would increase, and that his statement that he would speak to 
himself and in himself after Aug 1st 1941 is true.

Later he will go to a wild jungle and speak louder and louder to 
himself (and will get thin like a skeleton) and the day he really 
speaks he will shout in a lonely place, and all the world will feel 
it.

Before that happens hate and destruction will grow and spread till all 
is chaos: after he speaks hate will all be gone, and there will be 
understanding and love and a world of friendly nations.
Baba flattered me a lot - it's like a deep drink of celestial wine to 
see Baba - he gives so much in these wonderful meetings.

He was up till 2:00 am last night with us all, and that after 3 nights 
in the train.

This morning we had breakfast with Baba, and then to the station to see 
him off.

A lovely time for us all - a real refresher for the spirit of all of 
us.

26/12/41

To-day Adi got a wire from Pendu, sent from Meherabad on 24th, saying 
that Upasni Maharaj had died on Dec 24th - so what! 

Baba has always said that when Upasni dies He comes into His full 
power.

Now there is one more Satpurusha to die before Baba manifests. Poor Adi 
feels it very badly that he was not with Baba when Upasni died: after 
all it was Masa, Gulmai, and Adi who have the closest link with 
Upasni, also Sailor. 

 5/8/42 Dehra Dun

As a result of a wire sent by Baba I have managed to get 3 weeks leave, 
and so have come up to join Baba for a few weeks.

Baba has told me to-day that there will in a few months be such chaos 
everywhere that I am not to worry or brood; Germans and Japanese will 
come towards India, and there will be internal strife as well between 
Hindus and Muslims. He says that by the end of October my own future 
will work itself so beautifully that I shall then begin to work for 
Baba and with Baba, and shall no longer be in Bangalore. What all this 
means Baba wouldn't say. He also told me to smoke only one cigar 
daily, not more, otherwise some general chit chat.

Baba is really looking very fit indeed, active and in good mood. I am 
to stay here 10 days, and in Meherabad 4 days, and visit Hardwar, 
Rishikesh and Mussoorie while here.

9/8/42 

Went up to Mussoorie hill 2 days ago and walked down again. All was in 
the clouds but beautiful nevertheless.

Baba said yesterday that Masts are his God, and that the masts help him 
in his world work - some masts he pushes on a little. He also talked 
of the childish condition of such masts as Chatty Baba - 
Bal-unmat-pishach- (childish, mad, and dirty) which is just what they 
are, when their consciousness is absorbed in bliss away from earthly 
things - a sort of reflex physical life while consciousness is 
elsewhere.

Baba talks about the war and the India situation; he agrees that 
non-violence is good and that India must be free, but he says the 
inconsistency of Gandhi, and others, is confusing and misleading, and 
will lead to chaos.

Baba is very lively and cheerful - calling us all names - me the son of 
an ostrich; he chit chats, and feeds the mast who is here. This mast 
smokes endless cigarettes.

10/8/42 

Baba to-day talking a lot about Congress, and arrest of Gandhi and 
Congress leaders. Says good for British they acted now; if mass 
movement had once started it would have had to stop. Baba says India 
must get freedom, but Gandhi has made a mistake to try for action now 
- in any case there will be chaos now in 2 1/2 months. Baba says 
no-one is really to blame, it is all his fault, and what will be will 
be. Baba altogether very lively and full of fun to-day chit-chatting, 
joking and teasing a bit. Says he will come here morning and afternoon 
for 1 week to plan Mandali's future work. He still persists that after 
2 1/2 months I shall be with him and working for him - how he doesn't 
say 'so we shall see'!
