Announcement:

There will be no films shown this Wednesday due to Baba’s Birthday play preparation in the Theatre, but the following special talk has been scheduled at the MPC in this time slot:

Wednesday, February 18, 2008

Guest speaker, Rick Chapman

“Meeting Meher Baba at age 23”

MPC Dining Hall
4:00 PM Tea - 4:30 PM Talk
(Bus leaves MPR at 3:30 PM for the talk)

Rick Chapman met Meher Baba in 1965 while traveling on a Fullbright scholarship in India. Nicknamed by Baba “moochewalla” (‘the man with the mustache’), Rick and a few others received the mandate from the Avatar Himself to "help the youth of America to stop doing drugs." So he returned to the USA at the height of the drug rage of the sixties and followed Baba’s orders, giving numerous talks on Baba, spear-heading interest throughout the counterculture. One Baba lover reported first hearing of Baba through Rick:

“At the intermission of a rock and roll light show in Chapel hill, where most people had been smoking pot, Rick got up on the stage and made an announcement about his talk for the following day. He said that he'd just gotten back from India where he had met Avatar Meher Baba; then added,

‘ If you think you’re high, Meher Baba is the highest of the high! ’”

His words had quite an impact on the crowd and at his talk the next day, many people became interested in following Baba and many became Baba lovers.

Rick continues to share Baba’s messages and is the author of many books and articles on Baba.

Jai Baba! Debbie Nordeen
