HEALTH AND SAFETY UPDATE;
To All Residents and Nearby Community
Many of you may have noticed that the September rains have started
filling some portions of the nullahs or bunds with water. Water has
also been collecting in containers and all manner of other items left
out in the rain. Please remember the imminent and ongoing need we all
have to prevent mosquito borne diseases, such as Chickungunya and Dengue
Fevers, by doing the following things:
1) Protect your body from mosquito bites by using insect repellent
several times a day. Repellents such as that with Deet, Lemon
Eucalyptus Oil, and Neem Oil are most effective. Neem Oil can be
purchased at oil and incense shops in Ahmednagar.
2) Wear protective clothing at dawn, dusk and during daylight hours
when the Aedes mosquito that carries these diseases bites.
3) Dump standing water every 3-5 days (from barrels, trash cans,
plastics, old tires, bottles with no lids, trays under refrigerators, etc.).
4) Kill mosquitoes on screens, walls and anywhere they are seen. It
is effective in most cases, to put 1 tsp. of Prill green (lime with
vinegar) dish soap with water in a small, white or stainless bowl in
the windowsill.
5) Use screens, mosquito nets and fans when possible. Keep toilet
and shower doors closed all the time to prevent mosquitoes' entry.
6) Keep watch for standing water around your dwelling and
neighborhood. Check toilets, septic tanks, vent pipes and drains often
for leaks, cracks and the need for mosquito screening.
