Public health notice to all Meherabad community
With monsoon already very generous we need to think of reinforcing our
mosquito control measures.
The public health office in Nagar says the chikungunya epidemic is expected
to resume. Also, let us remember that the same mosquito can transmit dengue
fever. At present the mosquito population is not so large, but the moment
the rains stop and it gets hotter, they'll multiply like anything if we let
them!
Therefore it is most important for all to cooperate in this matter. Fogging
with insecticide is only a temporary solution. Within one week the
mosquitoes come back, and after some time the mosquitoes become resistant
to the poison. The chemical insecticide also creates other damage in the
environment, like killing fish and other aquatic creatures, which feed upon
mosquito larvae. In the long term, it is also harmful to humans.
So the best solution remains taking care of breeding sites, that is, all
the places where standing water can accumulate. We are sampling the ponds
and treating them when needed. The other big breeding sites are plastics
and other water holding containers. Have you noticed how Meherabad is
strewn with garbage of all kinds? Plastic bottles, plastic bags, styrofoam
cups, ice cream containers, etc...Caran has organized volunteers to pick up
the trash lying around lower Meherabad. But we each need to be watchful and
to do all we can to improve this situation. Plastic bottles should not be
lying around all over the place. We have a recycling group that is
collecting such items twice a month. Let us make more use of it! Call Adair
or Caran for more information.
With the large numbers of pilgrims coming for Silence Day, we can expect a
lot more garbage to be generated, so let’s make sure we have proper trash
cans available. Apart from the health hazard involved, we need to do all
we can to keep Baba's home looking beautiful as His Beloved Mehera would
want it to be.
Yours in His love and Service,
Dr. Anne and Caran
